Sjefdirigent Christian Kluxen og symfoniorkesteret

Kluxen and Mayer

Beethoven-The Pastoral Symphony

The light and springlike 6th symphony by Beethoven is a depiction of the idyllic landscapes on the outskirts of Vienna. As well as this symphony we will hear Richard Strauss’ oboe concerto played by Albrecht Mayer from the Berlin Philharmonic. This is a great way for us to end the spring season.

Dates and tickets

Beethoven composed his Pastoral Symphony at the same time as his well-known 5th symphony. They were both premiered in the same concert, but they are very different musically. The 5th is dark and dramatic, while the 6th is light and optimistic. The music in the 6th symphony is close to what we call programme music, where specific elements like a river or a landscape are described.

Albrecht Mayer has been principal oboe of the Berlin Philharmonic since 1992, but he often performs as a soloist with other orchestras around the world. Together with the Arctic Philharmonic he will play the virtuosic oboe concerto by Richard Strauss, a piece written in 1945.

This concert will start with two shorter pieces. Paradisfugler, inspired by the BBC Earth-series Paradise Birds by Andrea Tarrodi, and Soliloquy by Edward Elgar.

The concert is conducted by Christian Kluxen.
