We are very proud of our Artistic Director of the Arctic Philharmonic’s Sinfonietta, Tim Weiss, who be joined as a soloist for tonight’s concert by one of our friends, violinist Peter Herresthal.
Herresthal was also a soloist when the Sinfonietta had such a successful concert during the Bergen International Festival just before the summer of 2019. Tonight’s concert will begin with a work by composer Lars Petter Hagen, who was awarded Arne Nordheim’s composer award in 2003 when he was 28 years old. We will hear his Funeral march over Edvard Grieg from 2007.
Tonight’s second work is Eivind Buene’s Violin Concerto. The Arctic Philharmonic’s recording of this work was nominated for a Spellemann Award in 2018.
Tonight’s third work was written by the by the Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir. The composer has an impressive list of achievements including the Nordic Council Music Prize in 2012. In 2015, she was selected as the New York Philharmonic’s Kravis Emerging Composer, an honour that comes with a prize of $US 50,000 and the task of writing a commissioned work for the orchestra. During tonight’s concert, we will hear this critically acclaimed work, Aequilibria.
