The Flutes – Close Up

Magical Music

If you have a curious mind, you will enjoy the concerts of the series Close Up. Our flutists Ellen and Elisabeth invite some of their best flute friends for a journey through the repertoire and history of the instrument.

Dates and tickets

The flute is one of the oldest instruments in the world. The flute family consists of several kinds of flutes, from the piccolo flute to the alto flute. At this concert you will experience different sounds and expressions. The repertoire will be a journey through the history of music, from baroque to a world premiere of a commissioned piece for alto flute by the Iranian composer Mirsaeed Hosseiny Panah.

The flute as an instrument has a history from Ancient Greece, the Roman Empire and our own culture today. Many composers look upon the flute as being magical. The composer André Jolivet has said: «The flute is the musical instrument par excellence. It is, after all, animated by the breath that flows from the depths of humanity and gives to the tones that which comes from the viscera and at the same time means the cosmic. »

The concert is also an event for the friendship between the four flutists Ellen Jenssen, Elisabeth K. Eide, Trine Knutsen and Dejan Gavric.
